Our philosophy is that music must be fun. Children learn best when they are enjoying themselves. Manchester Young Musicians is a place where children will develop the core musical skills through singing, music and play.
We are delighted to be taking part in the festival. Come to our concert
and catch a variety of musical items, ranging from a polyphonic
rhythmic choreography through to a ball orchestra, as well as
instrumental items and creative singing!
Run by Debbie Wright and Becca Spencer - two experienced teachers and musicians (CRB checked). Teacher Biogs
We set up Manchester Young Musicians in 2008, teaching one class as a team in Chorlton. It has grown year by year, and we were delighted to expand to 3 classes in 2013: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. We continue to run 3 classes today and it offers a progression that we find works very well.
Foundation is a creative music group for 4 to 6 year olds. It incorporates Dalcroze and Kodály activities to establish the core skills needed to engage with music, be it listening, playing or composing.
The Intermediate group for 6 to 8 year olds builds on the Foundation core skills and extends the range of musical topics to establish a broader basis of knowledge and practice. The class learns to fully apply the Dalcroze and Kodály musicianship activities to instrumental playing - both percussion, and any instruments pupils are learning outside of the class.
Advancedis our new dynamic class for 8 to 10 year olds. The focus is placed on performing, composing and improvising using singing, percussion and pupils' own instruments. Dalcroze and Kodály techniques are an integral part to developing pupils' musicianship.
