Our philosophy is that music must be fun.  Children learn best when they are enjoying themselves.   Manchester Young Musicians is a place where children will develop the core musical skills through singing, music and play.

We are delighted to be taking part in the festival.  Come to our concert and catch a variety of musical items, ranging from a polyphonic rhythmic choreography through to a ball orchestra, as well as instrumental items and creative singing!

Run by Debbie Wright and Becca Spencer - two experienced teachers and musicians (CRB checked).           Teacher Biogs

We set up Manchester Young Musicians in 2008, teaching one class as a team in Chorlton.  It has grown year by year, and we were delighted to expand to 3 classes in 2013: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.  We continue to run 3 classes today and it offers a progression that we find works very well.

Foundation

Foundation is a creative music group for 4 to 6 year olds.  It incorporates Dalcroze and Kodály activities to establish the core skills needed to engage with music, be it listening, playing or composing.

Monday 4 - 5pm  in the theatre at The Edge Arts Centre, Manchester Road, Chorlton M21 9JG.

Intermediate

The Intermediate group for 6 to 8 year olds builds on the Foundation core skills and extends the range of musical topics to establish a broader basis of knowledge and practice.  The class learns to fully apply the Dalcroze and Kodály musicianship activities to instrumental playing - both percussion, and any instruments pupils are learning outside of the class.

Monday 5-6pm in the theatre at The Edge Arts Centre, Manchester Road, Chorlton M21 9JG.

Advanced

Advanced is our new dynamic class for 8 to 10 year olds.  The focus is placed on performing, composing and improvising using singing, percussion and pupils' own instruments.  Dalcroze and Kodály techniques are an integral part to developing pupils' musicianship.

Monday 6 - 7pm in the theatre at The Edge Arts Centre, Manchester Road, Chorlton M21 9JG.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss which group would be suitable for your child.
